Who is the inspiration for Peter's artistic display on brotherly love...

OUT OF THIS WORLD: Peter shows off his
entry and certificate with a little help
from a star of his favourite TV show.
The work of a Warrington artist, inspired by the bond he shares with his late brother, has won him a place in the final of a national competition.

Although Peter Trengove never knew his brother Paul, who died aged six - two years before Peter was born, the pair share many common bonds.

Both were born with Cystic Fibrosis and both shared a passion for Doctor Who, with Tom Baker as their favourite Doctor.

Only a week before he died, Paul fulfilled his ambition to meet Mr Baker.

This inspired Peter to choose as image of Jodrell Bank for his entry in the Back the Kid arts and photography competition, as it was the location where Tom Baker departed from an episode of Doctor Who.

Peter, aged 27, from Cynthia Avenue, Woolston, took the picture on April 17 last year - 16 years to the day after Doctor Who returned to the television. He chose to title the image From this world to the next.

Peter said: "Not long before his departure from this world to the next, Paul met our hero, Tom Baker. Paul may have died at a young age but he left this world happy that he had met Tom Baker."

The judges chose Peter as a finalist for the powerful idea behind the picture, a symbol that links Peter to his dead brother.

Back the Kid is a nationwide campaign to help ensure people with Cystic Fibrosis, particularly children and teens, have access to the best possible care and treatments, to improve their quality of life and to help them live longer.

Breath Taking Pictures

Cystic Fibrosis Photography & Art Competition

On 17 April 2005 I took a photo of Jodrell Bank (pictured). This was entered into a Back the Kid competition. The aim of the competition was to enter a photo and describe what it meant to you as a Cystic Fibrosis sufferer.

This entry was a runner up.

The title of the entry was From this World to the Next.

Below is a description of what the photo meant to me:

This place means a lot to me. Jodrell Bank is the location where Tom Baker departed from the behind-the-sofa Science Fiction program, Doctor Who, of which I am a fan. I took the picture on 17 April 2005, the day after the 16 years wait of Doctor Who finally returing to our television screens.

Not only is Tom Baker my favourite Doctor, but he was also the favourite of my older late brother, Paul.

On 15 October 1977 Paul died at the age of 6 from Cystic Fibrosis. Not long before his departure from this world to the next, he met our Doctor Who hero, Tom Baker. Paul may have died at a young age, but he left feeling satisfied that he had his photo taken with Tim Baker for the newspaper.

I was born in 1979 so I don't know my brother apart from the special moments my parent's share with me. The only link Paul and I have is the similarity of our lives from being Cystic Fibrosis sufferers, to being fanatics of the longest running Science Fiction series, Doctor Who.
